FINAL ADJUSTMENTS
RADIO ADJUSTM ENTS
Use the follow ing steps to m ake the final ad-
justm ents on your car
.
1. T u rn the transm itter on.
2. M ake sure the m otor is disconnected.
3. C onnect your battery pack (if RTR) and/or
turn the E S C s pow er sw itch on (if included).
4. Move the steering control on the transm itter
to the right and left. Do the w heels move in the
correct direction? If not
, you m ust reverse the
steering servo dire c tion on your transm itter
(see radio m anual.)
5. Adjust your steering trim (see radio m anual)
until the #9659 steering rack is centered un-
der the top plate. Then, using the two steering
turnbuckles, adjust the front w heels so they
are pointing straight ahead.
6. A d just
the ESC (electronic speed control)
according to the speed control m anufacturers
instru c tions. Som e m anufacturers have the
motor connected during adjustm ent and som e
do not. Now turn the pow er sw itch off.
7. C onnect the motor. Place your car on a block
or car stand so that all four w heels are el-
evated. Turn the pow er
sw itch on again. C heck
the E S C and steering settings you have m ade
and then turn the pow er sw itch back off.
8. Remember this! The transm itter is always
the FIRST TO BE TURNED ON and THE LAST
TURNED O FF.
M ake these adjustments before you drive the buggy
MOTOR GEARING
To get the m ost from your motor, proper gear-
ing is im portant. The gear ratios listed in the
chart are recom m ended starting gear ratios.
Ratios can vary from track to track, but you
should not change the pinion size m ore than
one tooth from the recom m ended ratio.

MAINTENANCE
Follow these steps to keep your buggy in shape for racing
CHECK FO R FIT
You should periodically check all the m oving
parts: front and rear end, suspension arm s,
steering blocks, steering linkage, shocks, and
so on. If any of these should get dirty or bind
then your cars perform ance w ill suffer.
MOTOR MAINTENANCE
Betw een runs, inspect the brushes to ensure
they are moving freely in the brush holder. This
is done by carefully rem oving t
he spring and
sliding the brush in and out of the holder. If
there is any resistance or rough spots, rem ove
the brush and carefully w ipe the brush clean.
This w ill clean off any buildup so the brush
slides sm oothly in the brush holder.
After every 3 to 5 runs, rem ove the brushes
from the holders and inspect the tips for w ear
and/
or burning. If there is a noticeable am ount
of w ear, replace the brush w ith a new pair. If
the tip is a burnt blue color, then the lubricant
in the brush has been burned aw ay and new
brushes should be installed.
After every other battery charge you should
carefully clean the m otor. O ne recom m ended
method is to spray m otor cleaner directly on
the brush and com m utator
area. R un the m o-
tor for approximately 15 seconds. Disconnect
the m otor and spray it again, making sure the
runoff is clear and clean. If the runoff is still
dirty, repeat the spraying action until clean. Af-
ter com pleting the cleaning, apply a sm all
am ount of lightweight oil to each bushing or
bearing for lubrication. Be careful not
to apply
too m uch oil, for this w ill pick up dirt and con-
tam inate the com m utator and brushes.

ASSEM BLE BATTERY PACK
If you are not using a stick battery pack, here is
how to assem ble your battery pack. Solder in-
dividual cell connections as show n.
Team racers prefer battery bars for stur-
dier connections. Insulated w ire w ill not allow
the pack to fit in the battery slot
. Solder connections w ith R eedy Battery
Bars (#651)
DIFFERENTIAL
Adjust the differential (diff) as noted on page
6. Adjusting the diff is not m eant to be a tuning
option. If you can hear the diff making a bark-
ing” orchirping” sound on jum p landings, ei-
ther your diff is set too loose or your slipper
clutch i
s set too tight. F irst check your slipper
setting, then re-set the diff according to the in-
structions on step C -9.
SLIPPER CLUTCH
The assem bly instructions give you a base
setting for your clutch. Turn the nut on the
shaft so that the end of the top shaft is even
with the outside of the nut. Tighten the nut 4
more turns. At the track, tighten or loosen the
nut in 1/8 turn increm ents until
you hear a
faint slipping sound for 1-2 feet on takeoffs.
Another popular way to set the clutch is
to hold both rear tires firmly in place and
apply short bursts of throttle. If the clutch is
properly set, the front tires should lift slightly
up off the surface.
Aim negative lead tow ard the front
CAUTION!Increasing the
pinion size by m ore than one
tooth can dam age your m otor
from excess heat.
